Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams thought her on-screen sex scene was written a joke.
She told Entertainment Weekly: “At first I thought it was a prank, I was like: ‘Yo, good one,’ and [the crew] were like: ‘No, we haven’t done that this year.’ Oh, f***!” Maisie then said that when she finally read through the script with her co-stars, she suddenly realised they “were actually going to do this”.
Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have been known to prank the GOT cast before. Perhaps most notably was when they sent Kit Harington a fake script with a scene that ended in Jon Snow’s face getting disfigured.

Williams suddenly grew panicked and thought: “When do I shoot this? I need to get to the gym! A whole list of things.” Another issue was whether or not the actress should strip off all the way as despite the countless number of nude scenes shown throughout the series, Maisie had joined the cast when she was a lot younger and viewers had watched her grow up on screen.
Williams, who was 12 when she first began filming for Game Of Thrones, explained: “David and Dan were like: ‘You can show as much or as little as you want.’ So I kept myself pretty private. I don’t think it’s important for Arya to flash. This beat isn’t really about that. And everybody else has already done it on the show, so…”
Before the Arya Stark actress even knew her character would be frolicking around with Gendry, Sophie Turner – who played Maisie’s on-screen sister Sansa – managed to get there first. She told Entertainment Weekly: “I called Maisie and was like: ‘Have you read it yet?’ And she’s like: ‘I’m midway through episode one,’ and I’m like: ‘This scene, this page, read it! This is awesome!’ She was very happy.”
Williams responded: “Sophie said: ‘Whatever you do, you have to skip to this episode first, this scene first,’ so I just read that and it was practically all I knew about the entire season.”
