Peter Kay shares ‘very disappointing’ news with fans and says ‘I can’t believe it either’

Peter Kay’s Manchester shows have been cancelled again.

The comedian was billed to officially open the new Co-op Live arena on April 22 and perform at the 23,500-capacity venue in Eastlands on Wednesday (April 24).

However, both shows had to be rescheduled to next week as behind-schedule power tests and safety issues continued but it has been announced that the shows, which had already pushed back back from to April 29 and April 30, will have to be cancelled again.

The dates have now been delayed until May 23 and 24. Co-op Live’s general manager, Gary Rode has also resigned following a series of problems and delays at the new arena.

The full statement read: “To everybody with tickets, my apologies once again but unfortunately the Co-op Live still isn’t ready and so, as yet, remains untested for a large-scale audience. Consequently, they are having to reschedule my two shows yet again (I know I can’t believe it either).”

The post finished by sharing the details of the rescheduled new dates and saw the comic admit that the drama has been “very disappointing” but added that “safety” can’t be compromised. He said: “The first available dates the shows can reschedule to are as follows: Mon 29th April to Thurs 23rd May Tues 30th April to Fri 24th May Tickets will be transferred, or refunds given if the new dates aren’t suitable. It’s very disappointing but your safety is important, and I won’t compromise that.”

The aren has been built by City Football Group while Harry Styles has invested in the stadium. Liam Gallagher, Olivia Rodrigo, Take That and Eric Clapton are among some of the other artists set to play there. The venue hosted its first event last weekend, although a number of ticket holders were told their tickets had been cancelled just a hour before the concert kicked off.

Those who were able to attend saw Rick Astley, Danny Jones, and Everything Everything take to the stage. However, the test event seemed to sparked concern that the building wasn’t quite ready, leading to the cancellation of Peter’s gigs. Just hours on from Mr Roden’s resignation, representatives for Co-op Live announced they had made “the difficult decision to postpone the live shows at Co-op Live due to take place this week”. The planned The Black Keys and Peter Kay shows will now take place next month.
