The incredible cast also featured the likes of Lennard Pearce playing Grandad and Tessa Peake-Jones as Raquel. Meanwhile, Cassandra was played by Gwyneth Strong.

But it turns out Cassandra, who was Rodney’s love interest, could have been played by Liz Hurley. Fans will recall the youngest Trotter (Nicholas Lyndhurst) finally found love with Cassandra after a slew of failed romances.

Cassandra met Rodney Trotter in the sixth series. They went on to tie the knot in 1989 and have a daughter together, Joan, before the show wrapped.

And with Only Fools at its peak at the time, there was a lot of actors keen to for take on the role of Cassandra – including Liz. However, it was Gwyneth Strong who won the part.

In the Channel 5 documentary Only Fools and Horses: Secrets and Scandals, author Mike Jones revealed: “She auditioned for the role and it was felt that perhaps she was probably a little too glamorous for…how can I say it diplomatically? Our lanky Trotter brother.”

The characters met when Trotter accidentally took her coat, which was identical to his, before later dancing in a nightclub and discovering a connection. The same series saw the couple get married. Rodney also finally moved out of the flat he shared with his brother, Del Boy.
