I’m A Celebrity’s Lembit Opik has come under fire after slating Olly Alexander’s Eurovision performance.
The former Lib Dem MP – who did a stint in the I’m A Celeb jungle in 2010 – let rip with a volley of posts on X after the Years And Years star took to the stage in Sweden to perform the UK’s entry, Dizzy. Lembit criticised what he called the “sexualisation of Eurovision” and said he’d stopped his own daughter watching.
He also took issue with Eurovision presenter Graham Norton praising Olly’s performance. But viewers weren’t having any of it, with some pointing out that Lembit used to be engaged to Cheeky Girls singer Gabriella Irimia, who was no stranger to a racy pop number herself.

Lembit had posted on X: “Eurovision UK entry simulated a sex act. Graham Norton praised this performance!

“I had to remove my daughter from watching. Regarding sexualisation of Eurovision, what action will BBC – or Ofcom – take against such vulgarity, given the reality of young viewers on a family show?”
He also said the performance was “overly sexualised” and suggested that he may complain to Ofcom, the broadcasting watchdog, himself. But Eurovision fans quickly bit back, with one posting: “Oh give it a rest.”
Another asked: “Have you never seen Eurovision before? Quite tame this year.” “C’mon Lembit, the show didn’t start until 20:00 so I think we can all immediately understand there might be some adult themes,” said one person. “This whole tweet smacks of faux outrage. Do better.”

“But the guy running around with no pants on was fine?” said someone else. “It’s bloody Eurovision man, get a life!” Another viewer joked: “Let me guess? You’re fine with the near naked women though right?”
In the noughties, Lembit was in a relationship with Gabriella, who was part of Romanian pop duo The Cheeky Girls with her sister Monica. They had a hit in 2002 with Cheeky Song (Touch My Bum), which came up on social media after Lembit slammed Eurovision.

“Hi Lembit, any thoughts on the Cheeky Girls’ song ‘Touch My Bum’,” one person asked. Another penned: “You literally dated a Cheeky Girl who sang a song about touching their bum and had skintight mini-skirts on.”
Someone else teased: “I don’t remember you making a fuss, when you were dating the Cheeky Girls. Strange that…”
Lembit and Gabriella met in 2006 and got engaged in 2008 after the politician popped the question in Rome. However, later that year it was reported that they had split.
