Strictly fans vow to ‘boycott’ new series as they point out obvious ‘mistake’

Strictly fans have vowed to “boycott the series” after pointing out one “massive mistake” with the cast.

Last week, the official line-up for the BBC dance competition was announced ahead of the 20th series set to launch this autumn. Fans will see the likes of TOWIE’s Pete Wicks, Love Island ’s Tasha Ghouri and EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick all take to the dancefloor.

They will be joined by comedian Chris McCausland, DIY SOS legend Nick Knowles, and Olympian Tom Dean. Also taking part will be Miranda star Sarah Hadland, singer Toyah Wilcox, and hockey player Sam Quek.

X Factor’s Shayne Ward, JLS’s JB Gill, and opera singer Wynne Evans will also swap their trainers for dance shoes while Morning Live’s Dr Punam Krishnan, Gladiator’s Montell Douglass and footballer Paul Merson round out the cast.

However, it’s fair to say the selection of the famous faces taking part in the show has raised a few eyebrows amongst fans. Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – many viewers have pointed out the striking difference in the ratio of male to female contestants.

One user penned: “Too many men if true. Why are these producers/ booking execs so afraid of all female pairings?” Another added: “Really not feeling the #Strictly line-up this year. Especially the unbalanced 9 men to 6 women ratio.”

A third chimed in with: “Such a shame there is only gonna be 6 women this year. I know why they have less women than men but still such a shame.” A fourth added on Reddit: “The lack of women and big names is a bit disappointing.”

A fifth questioned: “Why are there so many men?” It comes after Strictly fans insisted “we have our winner” after the latest show signing sparked a fix row.

Jamie, who plays Jay Brown in EastEnders, won the Strictly Come Dancing festive special last year. There has been speculation that because the actor did so well during the Christmas special, he will do well on the main show this autumn.

The news comes just weeks after the show shared its first snap of the 2024 professionals following Graziano Di Prima and Giovanni Pernice’s dramatic exits. Fans spotted many of their beloved pro dancers beaming in the snap, including Gorka Marquez, Dianne Buswell, Karen Hauer and Johannes Radebe.

Aljaz Skorjanec – who announced his surprise return for the anniversary series – was also pictured. He could be seen smiling alongside Amy Dowden, who is returning to the show following her treatment for breast cancer.
