Flaming Lips star’s teen daughter disappears in double heartbreak after tragedy

The Flaming Lips’ drummer Steven Drozd’s teenage daughter is missing.

A frantic search has begun for Charlotte following the news that she was last seen by the Space Needle observation deck in Seattle on Saturday 5 September. She has brown hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing khaki shorts and pink shoes.

The Seattle Times reported: “According to posts from the band and police, Charlotte Drozd stands between 5 foot 7 and 5 foot 9 and weighs 130 to 140 pounds. Anyone with information regarding her location is encouraged to contact Seattle police at 206-625-5011 or Becky Drozd at 405-831-6795.”

Charlotte’s father Steven took to X/Twitter to share a post calling for help. He wrote: “Our daughter Charlotte ‘Bowie’ Drozd has been missing in Seattle since 11:30am Saturday. Last seen on the monorail. We welcome any information or help,” and added a picture of his daughter smiling.

In the picture, Charlotte wore a grey hoodie with the words: “Seattle: The Evergreen State,” written across the front as she held a red phone in her hand. Charlotte wore her brunette hair pulled back from her face and appeared to sport a septum piercing.

According to reports, Charlotte was last seen mere hours after her father’s gig at The Climate Pledge Arena as part of Weezer’s Blue Album rock tour. Underneath Steven’s post, many people let the musician know that they had “reposted” his statement.

One person said: “Hope she is found safe,” while others wished for Charlotte to “get home okay”. The Seattle Times reported: “A [Seattle Police Department] spokesperson confirmed that a detective had been assigned to Charlotte Drozd’s case, but could not provide any updates.”

The publication also reported: “‘There’s no criminal investigation that we’ve conducted, there’s no kidnapping report that’s been filed, nothing like that. So it’s a standard missing juvenile case,’ Seattle police spokesperson Officer Eric Muñoz said.”

Teen music prodigy Nell Smith, who is known for her work with The Flaming Lips, was sadly killed in a car crash aged just 17 in a double heartbreak for the band as they search for Charlotte Drozd.
