Mission Impossible 7 filming halted after outbreak of coronavirus in Italy

Mission Impossible 7 filming had to be halted following the recent coronavirus outbreak in Italy.

The movie’s main star, Tom Cruise, has been forced to take refuge in a luxury hotel in Venice after the life-threatening virus killed a seventh person in the country as the deadly virus continues to spread.

The American actor was scheduled to film in some of the most striking and beautiful parts of the canal-lined city, but production was quickly halted after Italian chief imposed a lockdown – cutting the Venice Carnival short.

Italy has by far the highest number of coronavirus cases in Europe, with 219 mounting up.

It has now imposed strict quarantine restrictions in two northern “hotspot” regions close to Milan and Venice.

According to MailOnline, the 57-year-old was due to take a gondola ride through the city’s waterways, and was set to stop off at Piazza San Marco – also known as St Mark’s Square – a popular tourist pitstop.

However, filming plans have had to be shelved for the time being as the Hollywood A-Lister is now kicking back in the swanky Hotel Gritti Palace as the future of the film hangs in the balance.

It has been reported no one in the cast and crew has been infected.

The movie is set for a summer 2021 release date, but the temporary break on filming could push back the release.

Following news of the film’s production coming to a standstill, Paramount issued a statement explaining the three-week Venice shoot has since been rescheduled.

“Out of an abundance of caution for the safety and well-being of our cast and crew, and efforts of the local Venetian government to halt public gatherings in response to the threat of coronavirus, we are altering the production plan for our three week shoot in Venice, the scheduled first leg of an extensive production for Mission: Impossible 7,” the statement read.

“During this hiatus we want to be mindful of the concerns of the crew and are allowing them to return home until production starts. We will continue to monitor this situation, and work alongside health and government officials as it evolves.”

According to the New York Times on Monday, Italy has locked down 50,000 people in ten northern towns to contain the Coronavirus.
