Coronavirus: Doctor Who star Sophia Myles' father dies after treatment for virus

Sophia Myles’ father has died after he was treated for coronavirus.

The actress, who rose to fame on shows like Doctor Who and Underworld, broke the news over Twitter earlier today.

She said: “RIP Peter Myles. My dear Dad died only a few hours ago. It was the (coronavirus) that finally took him.”

Prior to his death, the 40-year-old star kept her fans updated about her father’s condition, sharing photos from his hospital ward.

Earlier in the day she posted a photo of her dad on a respirator, as doctors tried to aid his breathing.

She said: “Yesterday I went on a journey to see my father. This is the harsh reality of the Coronavirus.”

Thanking her fans for their support she added: “I just wanted to send a really short message to say thank you all so, so, so much for all your lovely, lovely tweets to me.

“I am sorry I am not able to reply to everyone in person but thank you. Every single one that comes through, I am so touched.”

Sophia revealed a film crew from the US network CBS had been filming her father as he fought against the deadly virus.

The Brit actress explained the footage would air on Monday as part of a US news segment relating to coronavirus.

Sophia played Madame de Pompadour in a 2006 episode of the hit sci-fi series Doctor Who, titled The Girl in the Fireplace.

The episode, starring David Tennant as the doctor, was widely acclaimed and received nominations for a Nebula Award and won a 2007 Hugo Award.
