Music Industry Joins Blackout Tuesday in Solidarity With Black Community

    Twitter/Tinashe

Bosses of record label and radio station have decided to join the grassroots campaign and go silent for one day to protest against racially-fueled police brutality.
    Jun 1, 2020
AceShowbiz – Music industry officials have pledged to join the grassroots campaign to make June 2, 2020 Black Out Tuesday in honour of George Floyd.
Following the killing of the African-American Minnesota man at the hands of white police officers and subsequent nationwide protests, music industry members have pledged to join the initiative.
Billed as “a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with our community,” the campaign – promoted with the hashtag #TheShowMustBePaused – has gained support from people like Dirty Hit Records’ Jamie Oborne, former Hot 97 music director Karlie Hustle, and Beats 1 host Ebro Darden.
“Due to recent events please join us as we take an urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change,” a post on the movement states. “As gatekeepers of the culture, it’s our responsibility to not only come together to celebrate the wins, but also hold each other up during a loss.”
In supporting Black Out Tuesday, Darden wrote on social media, “All of my shows are cancelled. I will air replays of conversations with community activists, politicians and revolutionary music.”
Record label bosses have also spoken out against the killing of Floyd in recent days, with Columbia Records, Universal Music Group, Warner Music, Sony Music, and more taking to social media to condemn police brutality.

Kylie Minogue Hopes to Raise Spirits With 'Grown-Up Disco' Album

    WENN

The ‘Spinning Around’ singer teases her next studio installment, claiming that coronavirus crisis encouraged her to write songs that could have an uplifting impact.
    May 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Kylie Minogue’s forthcoming self-titled album will see the star returning to her pop music roots.
The Australian star’s last LP, 2018’s “Golden”, saw the singer experiment with a more country-driven sound, but speaking to British GQ magazine, she revealed the forthcoming Kylie is “grown-up disco.”
“(It’s) difficult even for me to explain,” she said. “But even grown-ups need some pure pop fun.”
Reflecting on the resurgence of the disco sound from the ’70s in recent years, Kylie commented, “It’s all cyclical, right? I loved disco as an eight-year-old, so it’s been a long love affair.”
“I’m loving the modern interpretations of the genre now,” she said, before revealing her new sound also has an early-’00s influence. “There’s a lot of early 2000s love around at the moment. Both feel like good times for me, so I’m channelling that into this record.”
The “Spinning Around” star also confessed the Covid-19 crisis and lockdown also encouraged her to produce an uplifting record.
“The songs that are pure escapism have even stronger purpose,” she said.

Ricky Martin's Kids Help Pick Out Songs for His New EP

    Instagram

According to the ‘Livin’ la Vida Loca’ hitmaker, his 11-year-old twins Valentino and Matteo have lent their hands to choose the tracks for his new mini album ‘Pausa’.
    May 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Ricky Martin tapped his husband and young kids to help him complete work on his new EP “Pausa” during lockdown.
Martin, 48, has been keeping busy amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic as he put the finishing touches to his surprise new collection, out now, telling Entertainment Tonight, “When you really want to do something, nothing can stop you.”
While self-isolating, the hitmaker also shot a music video for the remix of his track “Tiburones”, taken from the EP, with the help of his husband, Jwan Yosef.
“I shot a video at home with my phone,” he revealed. “Is that scary or what? I think it worked out. (Our) director was in Miami and we were here doing everything we could, you know, obviously maintaining social distance.”
“But this is the new post-corona attitude. ‘What do we need to do? Let’s do it!’ And let’s do it right!”
Explaining how Yosef also helped him to take the perfect cover shot, the “She Bangs” star continued, “My husband took the picture of my new album cover. My assistant, who is quarantining with us, he all of a sudden became a set decorator and he’s an expert at lighting. We gotta reinvent ourselves, I guess!”
And the couple’s 11-year-old twins Valentino and Matteo, even assisted their dad in picking out which tunes made it onto the release.
“They’re picky and they love music. When I come home with something that they don’t like, they have no filters. They tell you,” he laughed, adding that when like something, they will also express their interest.
“Especially this new single… One of the twins, he heard it and then (he’s like), ‘Nice. Yeah. This I like,’ ” he added. “It’s pure, it’s honest, it’s real and they come up with ideas and I take them away. It’s good.”

Jimmy Buffett Felt Guilty for Playing Many Drunken Shows

    Instagram

The ‘Margaritaville’ singer decides to clean up his act and seek therapy for his alcohol addiction as he felt terrible for playing numerous hangover concerts.
    May 31, 2020
AceShowbiz – Jimmy Buffett knew it was time to sober up for concerts when he realised he was cheating fans out of the best gig.
The “Margaritaville” hitmaker admits he has played a series of hangover gigs and he always felt terrible about cheating fans.
“I’ve done it and I’m not proud of it… they call it take-the-money-and-run shows, where you might not be feeling your best and you know that you can get away with something and the audience won’t know it because they’re so happy to be there anyway and I felt terrible when those things happened,” the singer tells Rolling Stone. “I never wanted to do another.”
“You can do the amazing hangover show because adrenalin kicks in… but when all of a sudden it was two days and you’re still feeling funky… I thought, ‘Recovering from this is taking, like, surgical recovery days. I don’t wanna do this anymore’, and I just didn’t. I scared myself a few times.”
Buffett started sobering up in his 40s and turned to therapy for a little help and now, at 73, he’s amazed he wasn’t a rock ‘n’ roll casualty, like so many of his friends.
“You think you’re bulletproof at that age… but to me, at that point in time, I didn’t want to make my family ashamed of me, and that was a very strong deterrent from doing that and to make that change in my life at that time.”
“I had friends who are gone along the way to that (sic)… and I always wanted to emulate those guys… Jim Morrison was 27 years old when he died and Mama Cass was 32 and I’m sitting here at 73… I forgot about how young people went away and I just feel lucky I got through it. I made some kinda right decision at the right time…”
But his decision to clean up his act meant he had to steer clear of some good friends, like writer Hunter S. Thompson. “We had an amazing relationship but there were times I didn’t wanna be around him because I knew he was going there…,” Jimmy explains.

Take That Delivers Classic Hits During Reunion With Robbie Williams

    YouTube

Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald have reunited with their former bandmate and performed their classic songs for an online fund-raising gig on Youtube.
    May 30, 2020
AceShowbiz – Robbie Williams thrilled Take That fans by joining his old bandmates for a virtual charity gig on Friday night, May 29, 2020.
The “Angels” star teamed up with Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, and Howard Donald, for the Compare The Meerkat concert on YouTube, and joked about his late arrival as he tried to beam in from Los Angeles, where he is self-isolating with his wife, Ayda Field, and their kids.
“I’m here now,” he joked as he appeared onscreen. “Last time, I was 15 years late.”
Robbie left the band in 1995 but he has rejoined for occasional performances – the last one in 2018.
He joined the trio for a performance of band classics like “Back for Good”, “Shame,” and “Never Forget”, while wearing an eye-catching pink leopard print blazer.
The bandmates also chatted about their lockdown experiences, with Donald revealing he’s tired of reading children’s stories to his kids.
“I’ve read more books than in my life,” he grumbled.

Fans were clearly stoked to see the quartet back together even though another former bandmate, Jason Orange, was a no-show, with many taking to social media to rave about the virtual reunion.
One fan tweeted, “Free Take That concert, this is the best evening ever,” while another user added, “Loved watching you all together again, was a real tonic I needed. Thanks guys.”
Robbie previously joked about hiring a private detective to track down Orange.
Speaking on his “At Home with The Williamses” podcast earlier this week, he said, “None of us know where he’s gone. I should hire a private detective. He finds out where Jason Orange is, we inject him with a beeping thing, a chip, then we know where Jason is at all times.”
