Coronation Street's Yasmeen tipped to be not guilty in dramatic Geoff trial

Coronation Street viewers will see the dramatic storyline of Yasmeen Nazir’s (Shelley King) trial for attempted murder come to a conclusion in the show’s anniversary this week.

Her evil abuser Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) has attempted to paint her as a violent drunk during the trial.

However, Yasmeen held her own and told the truth of what really happened.

Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) appeared in court and gave evidence against Geoff in shocking scenes as she said he raped her.

The character said in court: “He forced himself on me and gave me infections because he was off with prostitutes every weekend.”

Bookies have predicted justice for Yasmeen as they put odds on the character being found not guilty as 1/3.

Odds on Yasmeen being found guilty are at 7/4, so it looks like Geoff is about to get his comeuppance.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “It’s a close one to call and while we all know Yasmeen’s innocent, a show like Corrie wouldn’t have been able to stick around on our screens for so long without its controversial twists and turns!

“Justice should prevail in this case, though, according to the odds.”

The trailer for Corrie’s anniversary teases the big reveal – showing the jury coming to a swift verdict.

Viewers will have to wait and see if justice is served later this week as the anniversary episodes begin tonight.

This week marks the show’s 60th anniversary since the soap first aired on December 9th 1960.

To celebrate the anniversary week, two pictures – a bird’s-eye view of its current home at MediaCityUK and a picture of where it all started 60 years ago – have been released.

The older image is of Studio 2 at Granada Television, where one wooden set represented the iconic street and the cobbles were painted on the floor.

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm on ITV
