Emmerdale ‘s Paddy Kirk has been at the centre of the ITV soap for the past 24 years, captivating viewers with scenes of heartache, comedy, and everything in between.
However, actor Dominic Brunt still worries over whether his contract will be renewed each year, dreading a sudden axe could be right around the corner.
The soap star, 50, opened up about his anxieties in a recent interview with The Mirror, expressing his relief each year in remaining on the soap.
“Every Christmas when the contract is up, I still think that’s probably it,” he told the publication.

“I think that keeps me going, the thought that at any point you could be out. You can’t just wing it, turn up with no ideas.
“So I try hard – but never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have a job this good for so long.”
Paddy first rocked up in the Yorkshire dales back in 1997, appearing as a fresh-faced young vet in the local surgery.

Over the years, he’s married three times, only to finally find love with none other than Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter).
Last year, they welcomed their first child together, little baby Eve, who was born in The Woolpack bar after Chas got trapped in the loo.
The sweethearts have been at the centre of a challenging storyline in recent months, which saw Chas consider cheating on her husband-to-be.

Later this week, viewers can look forward to a dramatic Christmas special, which will see Paddy and Chas organise a last-minute ‘do to become man and wife.
After a rocky year, a romantic wedding could be just the ticket to give them the happily ever after they truly deserve.
Will Chas and Paddy make it down the aisle without a hitch?
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with a second helping on Thursdays at 8pm.
