Fern Britton blasts Laurence Fox as he tells people to 'remove masks and gather'

Fern Britton has slated Laurence Fox over his tweet which urged people to “take off masks” and “gather in groups” this Christmas.

The 63-year-old presenter and former This Morning host slammed the controversial actor who told his followers to “hug and toast each other” after Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Tier four announcement.

On Saturday night, Boris announced that parts of the country would enter Tier four and rules around Christmas would change drastically.

After the government’s announcement, Laurence, 42, tweeted: “Take off your masks.

“Gather in groups, love, hug and toast each other this Christmas.

“Question every word this on the hoof, arbitrary and extremist government feeds you. They are lost.”

Laurence added: “Your freedom is on the line. Stand down @borisjohnson.”

His controversial tweet sparked outrage, and celebrities including Fern Britton responded furiously to his Twitter post.

Fern said: “What do you know about this virus that the scientists don’t? Do you not believe it exists? That it cannot kill?” Fern wrote in reply to Laurence’s provocative tweet.

“Or are you, rightly, frustrated at this government’s lack of speed in containment? Either way now is not the time to send people into unknown danger.”

Boris Johnson made the Tier four announcement after a new strain of Covid-19 was discovered.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock warned that the new variant of coronavirus is “out of control”.

Father-of-two Laurence launched the Reclaim Party earlier this year which he claims will “take back British values from politicians who have lost touch with the people”.

The party’s aims seek to defend freedom of speech, celebrate British history, and reform publicly funded institutions.

Some have branded the party as “a Ukip for culture”.
