I'm A Celebrity's Vernon Kay has signed up to make his 'excited' daughters proud

Television presenter Vernon Kay has shared the reason he said yes when approached by bosses for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Vernon has since become the favourite parent in his home after it was revealed he would be relocating temporarily to Gwrych Castle in Abergele, North Wales.

The former Family Fortunes host, 46, is believed to be banking around £150,000 for his appearance on the show which returns to screens this weekend.

Despite admitting he is terrified of confined spaces, Vernon has a special reason behind is participation.

Speaking about his decision, Vernon credits his two daughters, Phoebe and Amber.

“Mainly though I am doing it for my daughters, Phoebe and Amber.

“It’s a show they watch on a regular basis and they get behind the people in the camp. I think the fact I am involved in it will make it even more fun for them,” he said.

The nation’s favourite added: “And now it is approaching, they are so excited.

“Every time I talk about it, I get a double fist pump from them and they are thrilled to be involved.”

Vernon also revealed that The X Factor host Dermot O’Leary and former The Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes had offered words of wisdom before he went into isolation.

“I told them it was only a telly show!

“We might not be wearing the hats with the cork on it this year and, yes, it will be different by being in Wales but there is a lot of intrigue already and I am excited.”

With I’m A Celeb known for its brutal Bushtucker Trials, Vernon went on to say: “I am scared of confined spaces and being claustrophobic in water is a big one, I don’t like that.

“The coffin trial? I am 6 ft 4 and so it is going to take a heck of a lot of water to get to my nose!

“But I will try my best in the trials to get as many stars as I can for my campmates.”

Before he was officially announced as a campmate, a source told The Mirror: “Everyone’s so pleased to have Vernon on board.

“He’s a lovely guy, full of down-to-earth northern charm and perfect for the show.”
