Comeback star Kesha had to be reminded how to make pop music again by her brother.
The singer opted for a more laidback musical style on previous LP Rainbow, which reflected her struggle with mental health issues.
But now she is back lavishing in party anthems on new album, High Road, after a nudge from her family.
Kesha explained: “When I started I was like, what the f**k type of record do I make? But I like all the music.
“My brother called me when he was high and said, ‘Just make a f**king pop banger’. I was like, ‘Shut up, don’t tell me what to do’.
“So I went into the studio with Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons and thought, f**k it I’m gonna write a pop song but be mad about it.

“We got wildly fucked up by the end of the day we were drinking shots in the vocal booth and my brother was right, making pop songs is f**king fun.”
The California star’s career is back on track after a legal battle with her ex-producer Dr Luke. Now she is determined to move on.
She added: “It’s really important to know you don’t have to be defined by what you have gone through and you don’t have to live in the past.
“A huge part of this record is me reclaiming myself my joy and being the person I’ve always been.”

That doesn’t means there’s no self-reflection and one song called Resentment helped her beat her demons: “It features one of the most exciting collaborations – Sturgill Simpson and Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys.
She said: “It’s about a human emotion at the root of anger fighting fear and a lot of hate.”
But for all the pop bangers her highlight is deeply personal anthem called Father Daughter Dance, about the dad she never knew.
Kesha explained: “This particular day I wondered what my life would have been like If I had a father figure.
“I never grew up missing anything but this song just came out of my mouth. It’s probably one of the most intense songs I’ve ever written.”
