Mariah Carey makes history as All I Want For Christmas finally hits UK number 1

Mariah Carey’s Christmas Classic All I Want for Christmas Is You has finally hit the top spot in the UK charts.

The iconic festive track was initially released in 1994 before peaking at number two in the Official Charts Company, UK Top 40.

Now, the track has hit the top spot on the rival chart The Official Big Top 40 – Global radio’s chart show across their Capital and Heart networks.

All I Want for Christmas Is You has only ever made it to number six on The Official Big Top 40 chart over the years.

The feat means that Mariah is all but certain to also knock Ariana Grande’s Potions off the number one spot when the next Official Charts Company update is announced on December 11.

Last week’s number – Little Mix’s Sweet Melody – has slipped to number two while Liam Gallagher’s own festive track, All You’re Dreaming Of, comes in at number three.

Never one to miss a trick when it comes to Christmas, Mariah recently confirmed her own festive TV show.

Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special was released exclusively on December 4 via Apple TV+.

Teasing the venture to Billboard, Mariah said while her regular December Christmas Tour had to be put on hold due to the pandemic, she was still determined to do something.

The superstar said: “We can’t just let the bleakness of the current place we are at in the world foil all of the extra fun things that we do every year.”

The special show features a host of vocal powerhouses including Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, Misty Copeland, and Mykal-Michelle Harris.

Not stopping there with the festive cheer, Mariah has also launched her own brand of Xmas cookies.

The Christmas treats come in White Chocolate Cranberry, Pumpkin, and Gingerbread.

Taking about the collab, Robert Earl, Co-Founder of Virtual Dining Concepts said: “Mariah and I have chatted over the years about working together on a food business and, with her love of baking, cookies were a natural fit.

“As Mariah is synonymous with the holidays and celebration, we will make sure that her special holiday flavours are available not only for the holidays but year-round.

“It has been an inspiration to work with Mariah to develop this brand and to get it launched in time for National Cookie Day and the holiday season.”
