Michael Barrymore has been bombarded with abuse since the documentary about Stuart Lubbock’s death.
TV viewers have claimed he “knows something” and called on him to “tell the truth” as they demanded a fresh police probe after watching the programme.
Hours before it aired on Thursday Barrymore, 67, whined he was being “bashed and bullied by the media”.
He claimed Channel 4 refused to show him Barrymore: The Body In The Pool in advance. The show sparked a backlash online.
Barrymore’s former Celebrity Big Brother housemate Jodie Marsh said Stuart’s family “deserve answers”.
The pair were at loggerheads during their time on the show in 2006. She tweeted: “Barrymore fled the scene.

“Barry (sic) refused to answer key questions. The Lubbock family deserve answers. I feel for the Lubbock family so much.
“This is making me sick.”
One critic tweeted: “It’s the Barrymore show. No surprise but it frustrates me when we lose sight of who the real victim is.
“He shouldn’t be a footnote in the story of his own murder.” While one added: “Definitely know more than he’s admitting.”
And one posted: “Someone in your strange crowd of hangers on knows what happened that night.
“The poor, poor Lubbock family. You can see the pain and suffering it has caused them for almost 20 years. Tell the truth. RIP Stuart.”

Meanwhile, another TV viewer said: “Surely all that matters is he was murdered by someone who hasn’t been caught.”
One social media user added: “Unbelievable. Somebody knows.”
The body of Stuart, 31, was discovered in the swimming pool of Barrymore’s Essex mansion after a party in 2001.
Stuart’s dad Terry, 74, said he feels the “door is starting to open” on information about his son’s death.
Former TV presenter Barrymore was arrested in 2007 and released without charge, he has always said he is “100% innocent”.
In a video he posted on Thursday, he said: “The truth is I have always done anything that was asked of me and I’ve co-operated with everyone.

“I have had nothing to do with this whatsoever and yet I keep getting bashed and bullied by the media.”
Earlier this week Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Jennings said three people arrested in connection with the death, including Barrymore, have not been “completely eliminated” from inquiries while the five other people are still being treated as witnesses.
Channel 4 said: “We are not obliged to show the subjects of documentaries programmes before broadcast.
“Mr Barrymore was given a fair opportunity to respond to the matters raised in the film, and his position is fairly included in it.”
