Phillip Schofield heartbroken by death of former colleague as he pays tribute

Phillip Schofield admitted he is “heartbroken” over news his former colleague, musical director Kate Young, has sadly died.

The This Morning presenter worked with the theatre boss on the West End while starring as Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Paying tribute to Young’s life and legacy, Phillip, 58, shared an emotional statement over social media, branding his friend as “kind” and “so talented”.

He said: “Heartbroken to hear of the passing of Kate Young @katarinageo who was one of my musical directors during my Joseph years.

“Kind, funny, so talented, wonderfully bonkers and totally delightful.”

He finished: “So sad. All my love to her family.”

A photo of the late musical director accompanied the post, showing Young gazing at the camera with a smile lighting up her face.

Below the post, Phil’s celebrity friends and followers sent their condolences, paying their respects to his late friend and colleague.

Strictly Come Dancing star James Jordan wrote: “RIP.”

“Sending hugs your way Phillip xxx,” added a third fan.

Though Phil is best known as a presenter on shows such as This Morning and Dancing On Ice, the dad-of-two has dabbled in musical theatre in the past.

Phillip assumed the lead role of Joseph in 1991, taking over from Australian actor Jason Donovan in playing the biblical character.

Later, in 1998, he starred in a West End production of Doctor Dolittle, singing and acting opposite Hollywood legend Julie Andrews.

Two years ago, he briefly returned to the role of Joseph for Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, during a birthday tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber.
