Phillip assumed the lead role of Joseph in 1991, taking over from Australian actor Jason Donovan in playing the biblical character.
Later, in 1998, he starred in a West End production of Doctor Dolittle, singing and acting opposite Hollywood legend Julie Andrews.
Two years ago, he briefly returned to the role of Joseph for Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, during a birthday tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber.
