Coachella music festival to be 'postponed' due to coronavirus outbreak in US

Coachella Valley Music Festival will allegedly be “postponed” due to the recent coronavirus outbreak.

Artists such as Lewis Capaldi, Charli XCX and Calvin Harris were due to headline the first weekend of the Californian bash which kicks off on April 10th, with round two the following week.

Rage Against The Machine, Travis Scott and Lana del Rey will also be taking to the famous stage.

The festival which is due to be held next month is rumoured to be moving to October 9th and October 16th, with the same famous lineup performing.

A US journalist tweeted: “A source familiar with the arrangements tells me that the Coachella festival will be postponed due to coronavirus concerns and moved to the weekends of October 9 and 16.

“As of now, the same lineup is confirmed to perform.”

Crowds at the festival have reached numbers as high as 100,000 with celebs such as Kim Kardashian-West, Brooklyn Beckham, Kylie Jenner, Reese Witherspoon and Paris Jackson donning their best festival looks for the weekend.

TMZ has reported that Coachella Valley’s Dr Cameron Kaiser has not informed Coachella officials to cancel the bash but as the virus continues to take over, this could change.

Coronavirus is sending shockwaves across the globe, with stock markets dropping and bands such as BTS cancelling tours amid fears.

Justin Bieber recently announced he will be playing arenas on his upcoming tour, rather than stadiums due to the outbreak.

There had previously been rumours that Coachella 2020 would be threatened by COVID-19 after a Texas festival had been cancelled.

Three more patients in the area have tested positive for COVID-19 with a petition now circulating for the event to be cancelled after the BNP Paribas Open tennis competition in the same area has been postponed.

The Riverside County Health Department confirmed their first coronavirus case just days ago, with the number set to rise in coming weeks.

It’s believed that in the United States, there are over 500 cases of the virus with 22 being fatal – as reported by The New York Times.
