Corrie's Kym Marsh to host Pride of Birmingham Awards in YouTube broadcast

Coronation Street star Kym Marsh is about to make history hosting the first-ever virtual Pride of Birmingham Awards, in partnership with TSB, over YouTube.

This Thursday evening will see the 44-year actress front the heartwarming ceremony, which celebrates the incredible achievements of the city’s bravest citizens.

Fans can tune in free of charge on YouTube here.

Celebrating the announcement, Kym, who formerly played Michelle Connor on Corrie, branded the opportunity as a “privilege”.

She gushed: “This is such a special way of celebrating some truly amazing people.

“The best thing about hosting Pride of Birmingham is meeting the winners, so to join them and their families where they live was an absolute privilege.

“We had so much fun, and I know viewers will too.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Pride of Birmingham bosses decided to transform the 2020 awards show into a virtual event.

Broadcast for free on YouTube, viewers can tune in from 7pm to witness the real-life superheroes of Birmingham accept their coveted awards.

Last year’s champions included Ahmad Nawaz, who survived a terrifying Taliban attack on his school, and brave firefighter John Conway, who saved a tourist who had fallen into a volcano.

Urging viewers to nominate the worthiest recipients for the coveted award, Kym encouraged fans to celebrate the “unsung heroes” in their community.

She said: “Just like Pride of Britain, the real stars are the winners, unsung heroes of all ages who go to extraordinary lengths to help others.

“It is always such an honour to meet them, and help to celebrate their astonishing achievements.

“From inspirational fundraisers to heroic members of our emergency services and courageous children and young people, they are all so different, but they all share one quality – they are hugely modest about what they have done.”
