Countdown's Rachel Riley left red-faced after contestant spells out 'sex act'

Countdown presenter Rachel Riley was left red-faced after she noticed a rude word had been left on the board during this week’s show.

The maths whizz, 34, took to Twitter today to share a screengrab from the episode in a lighthearted post, showing her squirming after the word “blowie” was spelt out by a contestant.

Blowie is a vulgar slang term to describe oral sex performed on a man – but Rachel told how the contestant was also writing the slang name in Australia for a blowfly.

Rachel, who has presented the show for 10 years, wrote: “The blowie – that well-known type of fly… of course! Happy Friday folks.”

Countdown fans saw the funny side and took to Twitter to joke with Rachel about the awkward moment.

One wrote: “Couldn’t help but notice your smile when this happened.”

Another said: “Your face was a picture! Loved it.”

Rachel did not reveal in her post when the episode was filmed or who wrote the well-intentioned word on the board.

Last year Rachel shared some of the rude words which have appeared on the show to mark her 10-year anniversary on Countdown.

The jaw-dropping words included, “erection,” “s***s,” “todgers,” “vaginas,” and “orgasms” – among others.

In February she squirmed when she noticed the vowels and consonants a contestant had chosen could easily spell out the swear word “c***” during the final letters game.

Contestant Tony asked: “Can I have a vowel please?” and Rachel listed off “U”, followed by the remaining letters to make up the swear word.

She then turned around after Tony asked for the letter and pulled a twisted grimace in front of the camera.

The host told OK! she feels “glad to be back at work” after months away from the studio due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Rachel opened up about how it has been to be back with her colleagues.

She said: “It’s completely different now we’ve got the baby, but in terms of social distancing, we didn’t have to make too many changes because we’re all quite spaced out anyway!

“I think everyone is just glad to be back at work.”
