Emmerdale viewers found tonight’s episode too distressing amid the coronavirus pandemic and begged the ITV soap for cheerier storylines.
Fans were looking for some light relief in the form of their beloved soap, but many viewers felt tonight’s episode wasn’t uplifting.
Due to the current coronavirus crisis, fans begged the writers of the ITV soap to provide them with happier storylines.
They flooded Twitter with comments, requesting some light-hearted episodes in the future.
One said: “Excuse my interruption but can I ask ITV to pass on a message to the script writers of Emmerdale, please can you change the depressing story lines my god I’ll be watching repeats of Eldorado next.”

While another wrote: “No, not more upsetting scenes.”
“Some distressing scenes in Emmerdale tonight. Soapland wanna start living in the real world, added a third.
Other viewers felt it was strange that the soap wasn’t representing what’s happening in real life in terms of COVID-19.
One said: “Just can’t take the soaps seriously now it’s completely out of sync with real life. We’re all on lockdown and the Woolpack’s heaving.”

Emmerdale made headlines recently after the soap cancelled a number of episodes after halting filming due to coronavirus.
The ITV programme will only air three episodes per week from next Monday, instead of five.
This new schedule was announced following their original plan, which was to air five a week instead of the usual six.

A statement from show bosses read: “We’ve been doing out best to carry on filming whilst adhering to the government’s latest health guidelines, to ensure we’ve episodes of both soaps airing on ITV until at least early summer.
“However, the health and wellbeing of the production team, actors, crew and their families is of paramount importance to us and we now feel that the time has come to stop filming.
“We’d like to thank our viewers for their support and hope they continue to enjoy both soaps in the coming months.”
Emmerdale continues tomorrow at 7pm on ITV
