Gary Lineker admits some of his comments on social media have been wrong

Gary Lineker admits some of his comments on social media have been wrong.

The Match Of The Day host conceded that one or two things he has said have been wide of the mark.

Gary, 59, said: “I enjoy social media. I speak up on things I feel strongly about.

“And I might be wrong on one or two things. It’s fun.

“If people want to disagree that is fine too. If they get abusive that is the side of things that I do not understand with social media.

“Yes, have a disagreement. Sometimes I reply but generally block people if I think they are particularly rude.”

In December Gary admitted he “f***ed up” when he accidentally named Ben Stokes as BBC Sports Personality Of The Year before voting had started.

The ex-England footballer, who also fronts Walkers Crisps ads, later corrected his gaffe on Twitter, saying: “Congratulations to @benstokes38 on a deserved win.

“What a summer he gave us cricket fans. Never saw it coming, honest.’’
