Harvey Weinstein suffered mild heart attack after 23-year sentencing

Harvey Weinstein suffered a mild heart attack on Wednesday, just hours after a judge sentenced him to 23-years in prison for sexual attacks on two women, his spokesman confirmed.

The disgraced Hollywood film producer was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in New York after experiencing chest pains at Rikers Island jail.

Last week, doctors at Bellevue Hospital Center in Manhattan performed a heart procedure, inserting a stent to help with a blockage.

On Wednesday, he appeared in a Manhattan court for his sentencing where Justice James Burke issued the fallen star 23-years behind bars for committing a first-degree criminal sexual act along with third-degree rape.

He was then handcuffed to his wheelchair and transported back to jail, however, within hours, he complained of chest pains and corrections officers sent him to a jail ward at Bellevue, his spokesman Juda Englemayer, explained.

During his court hearing, Weinstein’s lawyers urged the judge to consider his poor health, age, and young children while sentencing him.

They pleaded for Weinstein to receive a minimum sentence of five years in prison, starting that even that would likely be a “de facto life sentence.”

“Judge, Mr Weinstein is a sick man,” his lawyer, Donna Rotunno, said in court.

“Mr. Weinstein has a multitude of medical issues. There are a list of things that are physically wrong with him and things that are serious.”

Six women testified against Weinstein at his trial, but the five-count indictment mostly relied on the accusations made by two of them – Miriam Haley, 42, and Jessica Mann, 34.

Weinstein was found guilty of a first-degree criminal sexual act charge for forcing oral sex on former production assistant Miriam Haley, also known as Mimi Haleyi, in 2006.

He was also convicted of the third-degree rape of Jessica Mann, a former aspiring actress, in 2013.

However, the jury acquitted him of a more serious first-degree rape charge relating to Ms Mann, which carried a potential life sentence.
