Jeremy Clarkson branded a Who Wants to Be a Millionaire phone-a-friend as “irritating” on last night’s episode, as tensions rose in the ITV studios.
Financial investigator Steve managed to make it to £64,000 and needed just one right answer to cash in on a whopping £125,000 cheque.
However, the question which appeared on the screen before him – about the solar system – left him lost for answers, as he desperately turned to his final lifeline.
The question read: “Which planet was discovered by astronomer William Herschel in 1781?”

Listed below were four possible answers: Uranus, Neptune, Saturn and Venus.
Uncertain, Steve declared: “Before the options came up, I was thinking Neptune, but I’m not certain. So I’m going to phone a friend.”
When he revealed he would call his pal Sarah, host Jeremy asked: “What does Sarah do, anything relevant?”
Earlier in the game, Steve praised the annual quiz in his local area, insisting the “Brain of Bishops Wood” competition was far superior to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

Harking back to their earlier conversation, he then revealed: “Sarah runs the Brain of Bishops Wood quiz.”
Jeremy exclaimed: “She could be just the person you need to talk to!”
However, the phone call didn’t go to plan, as Sarah confessed she thought the answer might be Uranus – but admitted she wasn’t certain.

Scoffing, Jeremy took a savage swipe at the phone-a-friend, saying: “That’s irritating.”
Contestant Steve similarly took a dig, saying: “Well I don’t think I’ll go to the Brain of Bishops Wood quiz next year.”
Unfortunately, Sarah had the last laugh when it was revealed she knew the right answer – Uranus.
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire airs on Tuesdays at 8pm on ITV.
