JLS' Marvin Humes talks awkward moment band turned down track from Ed Sheeran

JLS singer Marvin Humes has revealed that the band once awkwardly rejected Ed Sheeran.

Rochelle Humes’ husband made the confession while talking to Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts on her new podcast Heart Showbiz Hub.

The 34-year-old lead singer confessed that Ed’s hit song Lego House was orginally written for the band of four who have just recently made a comeback to the music scene.

Speaking to Ashley, Marvin bought up that around six months ago a clip emerged of Ed on stage confessing that he was once rejected by JLS after he wrote a song just for them, which turned out to be Lego House.

Marvin said: “There was this clip literally about six months ago… Ed’s on stage and he says ‘oh there was this song I wrote for JLS’ and we was like ‘what?’

“And he says ‘yeah about 2000 and whatever I’d written this song and you know it had a bit more of a groovier beat and you know it was a vibe, I really loved it but JLS obviously didn’t like it and I’m not surprised, they turned it down’.

“All of a sudden he starts singing Lego House so we’re like hold on a minute – woah woah woah woah.

“So wait, Ed Sheeran had written a tune for us back in the day and we never heard of it, it never came to us.

“We could have had Lego House, that could have been our tune!”

Years later in 2011, Ed released Lego House and it turned out to be the song that really kick started his name in the music business.

It was written by Ed, Jake Gosling and Chris Leonard, and produced by Jake Gosling.

The song received its first radio play on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show on September 8, 2011, and was Ed’s first song to make the BBC Radio 2 playlist.

The music video features Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint, as a play on their similar appearance.

It also did well worldwide, reaching top 5 on Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK Singles Chart, and top 50 on other countries including United States.
