Country music icon Joe Diffie has passed away from “complications of coronavirus,” his publicist has confirmed.
WKRN news correspondent, Josh Breslow, also shared the tragic news on his Twitter page.
Diffie’s fans flocked to the post to tweet their heartbreak over the star’s death.
One social networker commented: “RIP Joe Diffie. Our prayers are with all those families suffering from coronavirus.”
While another continued: “That’s so sad.”
A third simply added: “Heartbreaking.”
Joe Diffie had a number of popular music hits throughout his illustrious career, including John Deere Green and If The Devil Danced.
He scored five number one singles in total in the American music charts in the early nineties.
The statement from his publicist read: “Grammy-winning country music legend Joe Diffie passed away today, Sunday, March 29, from complications of coronavirus (COVID-19),” the statement read simply. “His family respects their privacy at this time.”
On Friday, Diffie publicly revealed he was battling coronavirus. He shared: “I am under the care of medical professionals and currently receiving treatment.
“My family and I are asking for privacy at this time. We want to remind the public and all my fans to be vigilant, cautious and careful during this pandemic.”
Diffie had a plethora of hits throughout his illustrious music career, with tracks such as John Deere Green and Third Rock From The Sun.
He scored five number one singles in the early nineties in the American music charts in total.
