Love Island location shake-up as show could be filmed in London due to Covid-19

With filming for movies, TV shows, and soaps currently halted due to Covid-19, the upcoming series of Love Island may still be given the green light despite the global pandemic.

Shooting for the popular ITV dating show usually kicks off in June, but the production team are being forced to push back the start date, along with the location.

Since the show’s revival in 2015, the programme has been broadcast from a luxury villa in the hills of Majorca, however, this year, the show could be filmed a lot closer to home.

Taking into account the current ban on international travel and social distancing guidelines, TV execs are currently brainstorming ideas, and one possible solution is a UK-based Love Island with filming taking place. in London, the Mirror Online reported.

Variety Magazine further fuelled rumours of a London Love Island when a source informed the publication an abroad location is not looking good given current events.

An insider explained: “It’s believed the 2020 summer edition could shoot somewhere in the UK rather than go overseas.

“A similar scenario is being considered for ITV reality hit I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, which shoots in Australia.”

They added: “An August to September broadcast is on the cards for the programme, as prospects for Love Island’s traditional June-July outing seem virtually impossible given the production lockdown driven by the global pandemic.”

Meanwhile, bookmakers Paddy Power informed that London is high on the list, and deemed the most “sensible location”.

With the UK capital looking a strong frontrunner, other places have also been considered.

Both the Isle of Man and the Isle of Wight, known for rugged coastlines and areas of natural beauty, could offer the perfect romantic date spot.

As well as the above places, the Islanders may have to ditch their bikinis for cable knit jumpers and hats as the Scottish Highlands could be a possible setting for the 2020 series.
