Niall Horan is 'no longer a selfish lover' after split from Hailee Steinfeld

Good news ladies, Niall Horan reckons he’s no longer a selfish lover.

The One Direction star was left red-faced after the scolding he received from ex Hailee Steinfeld on her single Wrong Direction, where she called out the Irish star for not being loyal and having a big ego.

It seems like Niall may have learned his lesson.

“I’ve definitely learnt so much about myself” he revealed. “I feel off the back of that relationship you learn so much about yourself and you don’t realise you do until you sit down and try and write songs about it and you go ‘f**king hell maybe I’m not as selfish as I used to be’.”

Heartbreak Weather landed at No1 this week and writing it helped make him become a better man.

“I learnt to write in a less selfish way, because I’ve written tonnes of love songs before but they all seem to be, ‘I’m so sad…me me me’.

“There are songs written from another person’s point of view. I tried to attack all angles of heartbreak.

“I think that says a lot about me as I wouldn’t have done that a couple years ago, I would have been a bit more selfish about things so off the back of my last relationship, and writing the album, I feel like that is taking a step in the right direction for the long term.”

Now he’s cracked the seal, Niall can’t get enough of writing sad songs and he thinks that’s what his fans want.

“When people are sad, they listen to sad songs to make themselves more sad — that’s the truth.

“Look at Adele, every person that loves her songs says, ‘It’s because I understand what she’s saying.’ “

Niall’s been making the most of his downtime whilst self-isolating so we could get even more new music soon, “There’s a piano in my living room, and I find myself walking over to it every few minutes.

“I wrote something half decent I think yesterday.”
