Ricky Gervais' cat Ollie dies as star shares tribute to 'sweetest soul'

Ricky Gervais has shared an emotional tribute online after announcing his Cat Ollie had died.

The comedian, who is known to be an animal lover, took to his official Twitter account to tell his 14.2million followers about the sad news.

Sharing a photo he wrote: “Just had to say goodbye to the sweetest little soul I’ve ever known. RIP Ollie

July 9th 2003 – March 10th 2020.”

Fans instantly began giving the star their support on the post.

One told him: “Aww. I didn’t realise you’d had him so long. Sorry for your kitty loss.”

While another added: “Aww, poor lil darling. Like a death in the family.”

A third commented: “I’m so sorry Ricky. He was beautiful.”

While a fourth exclaimed: “Oh no! Poor Ollie. Such beautiful cat and a character. You loved him so much.”

Ricky’s partner Jane Fallon also tweeted the sad news, alongside four pictures of Ollie playing at home.

She wrote: “I have awful news. My smart, funny, feisty, beautiful sidekick of the last 16 and a half years @myleftfang has passed away after a sudden down turn in her health at the weekend.”

“My heart is broken in two. I have no idea what I’m going to do without her by my side. #Ollie.”

Ollie was named after Ricky’s comedy hero Oliver Hardy. The cat had thousands of her own followers on Twitter under the handle @myleftfang.

The pet was gifted to Ricky by Jonathan Ross on the TV presenter’s show back in 2003.
