Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown, 16, hits out at being 'sexualised'

Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown has hit out on social media explaining to fans that “change needs to happen” as she fumed about being “sexualised” and “insulted” as a child star of the show.

At just 12, Millie shot to fame after her acting career took off after she played Eleven in the Netflix hit.

Turning 16, she took to Instagram to share her views on how she had been portrayed and wanted to set the record straight urging fans for “change” and “kindness” after she faced insults during her career.

Addressing social media spectators, she shared a video that showed her life and the scrutiny that she had faced with Justin Bieber’s new song Changes playing in the background.

She penned: “16 has felt like a long time coming. I feel like change needs to happen for not only this generation but the next.”

Speaking out about her experience as a child star, she wrote: “Our world needs kindness and support in order for us children to grow and succeed. The last few years haven’t been easy, I’ll admit that.

“There are moments I get frustrated from the inaccuracy, inappropriate comments, sexualisation, and unnecessary insults that ultimately have resulted in pain and insecurity for me but not ever will I be defeated.”

Despite her confessed pain as a young actress, she vowed to not be beaten down and wanted to deliver a positive message instead to her followers.

“Let’s focus on what needs changing and I hope this video informs you on the things that go on behind the scenes of the headlines and flashing lights.”

Millie concluded: “Don’t worry I’ll always find a way to smile, leggo 16.”

After her debut in 2016 on Stranger Things, at just 13, Millie became the youngest ever Emmy nominee to be shortlisted for an award.
