This Morning fans furiously slam show over interview about 'dangerous' diet

This Morning fans have branded the ITV daytime show “irresponsible” for telling viewers how to lose a stone in three weeks by eating just 800 calories a day.

Dr Michel Mosley appeared on Wednesday’s edition of the magazine show to chat to hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford about how to shed weight rapidly in three weeks.

Angry viewers were left unimpressed, calling the advice: “irresponsible and unhealthy”.

Others insisted the advice, which will be aired as part of Channel 4’s Lose A Stone in 21 Days tonight, was “extremely dangerous”.

Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford were back on our screens today to present This Morning

One unhappy fan penned: “Dr Mosley promoting 800 calories a day for 21 days? How dangerous is this for anyone who has battled or is battling disordered eating, or are highly impressionable? Healthy long term habits are more important than short term extreme restrictions. See your own GP.”

Another added: “Watching #ThisMorning with Dr Mosley. Losing a stone in 21 days – Is he seriously recommending 800 calories a day? Totally unsustainable .”

A third ranted: “Please do not eat only 800 calories a day. Don’t don’t don’t do it. Don’t try and follow this to lose a stone in 21 days. I beg as a qualified PT please don’t.”

While a fourth said: “Lose a stone in 21 days is an unrealistic expectation for anyone. 800 cals a day is ridiculous.”

Viewers have branded the ITV daytime show “irresponsible” as Dr Michae Mosley advised how to lose a stone in three weeks by eating just 800 calories a day

A fifth wrote: “Instead of encouraging an unhealthy 800 calories diet to lose a stone in 21 days. Maybe encourage a lifestyle change to eat a healthy amount of calories and do some exercise for long term benefits.”

Dr Michael, who says he managed to reverse his Type 2 diabetes by overhauling his diet, is a regular on TV programmes including The One Show.

He is credited with popularising the 5:2 diet, where you eat normally on five days but only 500-600 on the other two.

In 2013, Michael published The Fast Diet with Mimi Spencer.

Dr Michael chatted to Eamonn and Ruth about his new Channel 4 show Lose A Stone in 21 Days which airs tonight

The telly doctor has been helping others to transform their diet ever since this experience, and this new show is an example of that.

Some of the volunteers had gained as much as 42 pounds in lockdown, and Dr Mosley’s diet plan aims to fix this.

Mosley wants to tackle obesity, and one way to do this is to change your diet.

He suggested the national weight gain is probably down to stress, boredom, inactivity, and a desire to eat comfort food.

Mosley’s documentary shows how to slim down if you have put on weight during this time.
