BBC Homes Under The Hammer makeover delayed due to star's painful injury

A Homes Under The Hammer makeover was almost derailed after one of the owners suffered a nasty injury.

Dad Terry, son Kieran and brother Rhys had earmarked around four to six weeks to fix up the two-bed property in Wales, which was one of host Martin Roberts’ faves thanks to its space and the fact it didn’t need too much doing to it.

TV star Martin, 58, was a bit dubious about the timescale but the team were sure they could get the job done in the time they had laid out with a budget of £10,000.

However, according to the Mirror, when the presenter rolled back into town nine weeks later he discovered there had been a bump in the road.

Rhys had suffered a painful broken wrist, meaning he couldn’t do nearly as much as he had planned.

Luckily his injury didn’t throw off the timescale altogether and plenty of improvements had been made in time for Martin’s arrival.

The house, which the trio had snapped up for £53,000, had been plastered, and a new lick of paint had freshened it up.

New windows had been fitted, carpets had been laid and a bright new kitchen had been put in to complete the modern look – all for £11,000, just a grand over budget.

Martin – who has been busy getting in shape to bare all on The Real Full Monty – was pretty pleased with what had been done and said he thought the mid-terrace house looked “sharp”.

However, he did find fault with the bathroom because he didn’t approve of it being carpeted, and thought laminate or vinyl would have been a more practical choice.

And all ended well when the spruced up property received a top valuation of £90,000, meaning the trio could potentially make a nice profit and end up in pocket.
