BBC News in chaos as presenter mispronounces name to wrong guest

A BBC News presenter threw an interview into chaos when she stuttered on a guest’s name to a wrong person.

Newsreader Reeta Chakrabarti appeared on Wednesday’s (March 10) news programme and introduced activist Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu to give opinion on Piers Morgan’s comment on Meghan Markle.

It didn’t take long when viewers spotted her embarrassing blunder on live television and realised that the guest is not Dr Shola..

Video shared on Twitter went viral showing the except when Reeta turns away from the camera and talks to her guest.

She is heard stuttering: “We now speak to Dr Shola Mos…Shogbamimu, who is a lawyer and activist, as well as author of This Is Why I Resist.

“She joins me now. Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamilu, hello there. How are you today?”

The woman appearing on the screen look up at the screen and doesn’t seem to have picked up the audio.

Reeta tries again and says: “Dr Shola, afternoon to you. Oh there is a delay.

“Dr Shola, Dr Shola, it is BBC News speaking to you, can you hear us?”

She pauses and waits for the guest to respond before she turns to the viewers, apologising: “I’m so sorry. Clearly we’re having some trouble. Let’s move on.”

Dr Shola later responded on Twitter: ‘that’s not me I’m afraid’ (Image: Twitter/effwiverjay)

Viewers quickly took to Twitter and tagged Dr Shola in their comments.

Jeff, who posted the video, wrote: “So this just happened on BBC News…. There’s a reason why @SholaMos1 isn’t answering you!”

Another said: “They can’t even get your name right.”

Dr Shola re-tweeted the clip and commented: “Moment BBC called for Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu … that’s not me I’m afraid!”
