Dan Walker has finally shared CCTV footage of the injury which could have forced him to drop out of Strictly Come Dancing before the series had even begun.
The BBC Breakfast anchor, 44, suffered a nasty head injury after accidentally slamming his head on a glass pane at a hotel – and he had to be rushed to hospital for a brain scan afterwards.
Dan took to Instagram to share the unseen video of the dramatic moment with his 263,000 followers.
In the clip, Dan was on the phone, and he ran over to the door before smacking his head on the glass pane and falling onto the floor of the hotel lobby.
The BBC presenter admitted that he’d left his wallet in a taxi and had tried to make a dash to retrieve it from the cab before colliding with the door.
Two worried members of staff at the hotel could be seen rushing over to check if Dan was okay as he rubbed his head.
Explaining what happened after the clip, Dan said that he had an immediate “cartoon bump” and blood in his mouth.
He wrote: “I’ve got some amazing memories from #Strictly but I’ll never forget that it nearly ended before it even began!
“This was the incident which led to a brain scan back in September!
“Staff at the hotel and A&E were great & I was OK to return to training after a 3 day break.
“I’d left my wallet in the taxi but completely ignored the massive glass panel in the way while I was running outside before the car drove off.
“There was an immediate cartoon bump and blood where my teeth burst my lips but thankfully it wasn’t as serious as it looked.”
He went on to say that his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova had come to visit him in A&E – but they had to hide in the car park for hours as the public didn’t know they had been paired up together.
He added: “I had the scan and was told to rest. @nadiyabychkova was lovely & came with me to A&E but had to hide in the car park for hours because we hadn’t been announced on the launch show at this point”
“Feels like a lifetime ago. Thank you NHS,”
Walker came fifth in Strictly this year, whilst deaf EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis and her pro partner Giovanni Pernice won the series.
