Dragons’ Den viewers were left appalled during Thursday’s episode of the BBC business pitching programme as the inventor of a see-through toilet invited Deborah Meaden to try it out on camera.
“I can’t help thinking that I’d rather not have my toilet see-through,” Deborah said, before inventor Trystan Holtbrook turned up, as Tej Lalvani joked: “At least you can see what you had for dinner.”
The toilet, dubbed BubbleBog, was intended to reduce germs spread by flushing by producing a gentle froth of bubbles made from a Jacuzzi-style system.
And as commentator Evan Davis said: “To prove that point, Trystan invited Deborah Meaden to try it out” – and fans were left appalled.
“He invited Deborah to [go] on the telly on his posh bog!” one incredulous viewer wrote on Twitter.
Someone else agreed: “Oh my god, who wants a see-through toilet bowl?!”
As someone else simply posted a GIF of two wide-eyed telly watchers with the caption: “Trystan invited Deborah Meaden to try it out!!!”
Thankfully, Evan explained that Deborah would be trying “a more appetising alternative to the real thing” – and flushing two pieces of fruit down the toilet instead.
“I’m not sure I want to, but I will!” Deborah said, as she was egged on by her fellow Dragons.
“Just drop in from a low level to see how the froth absorbs the solid,” Trystan explained.
“There’s still a bit of banana!” she said as they watched the fruit disappear into the transparent plumbing system.
And Peter Jones wasn’t impressed with how loud the prototype toilet sounded when flushed, as he compared it to an aeroplane taking flight.
“In the end, the sound Trystan couldn’t get away from was that of the Dragons pooh-poohing the investment opportunity,” Evan joked as the Dragons declined to pour money into the toilet business.
And it seems they may have made the correct decision, as fans took to social media absolutely baffled by the invention.
“This toilet thing seems overcomplicated,” someone posted, as another viewer agreed: “A man has (over)invented the toilet.”
A third fan agreed: “A new toilet… the one I’ve got has worked well for years. What will this one do for me that hasn’t been done already?”

“Money down the toilet that one!” someone else giggled.
Elsewhere on the show, the Dragons were treated to a glimpse of the “world’s most expensive candle” – at a whopping cost of £750.
“£750 for a single candle. Some people have more money than brain cells,” someone said on social media.
And even the candles at a lower price point weren’t quite hitting the mark for others, as one joked: “£35 for a candle? He’s getting on my wick now!”
Dragons’ Den continues next Thursday at 8pm on BBC One.
