Eamonn Holmes is reportedly set to join GB News after an incredible 15-year stint on This Morning.
The 61-year-old presenter is known for hosting the ITV daytime show with his wife Ruth Langsford.
However, reports suggest he is set to join the rival network next year.
A source told The Mirror: “Eamonn’s move to GB News marks the end of an era.
“He’ll be missed by many ITV viewers but, the truth is, this job offer probably came at just the right moment for both him and ITV. All good things come to an end.”
The move comes after an Ofcom investigation was launched into Eamonn’s comments about 5G causing coronavirus.
More than 400 viewers complained about the segment, during which Eamonn appeared to back the Internet conspiracy theory which saw mobile masts across the country vandalised and set alight.
As a guest said: “There’s a rumour that is circulating, it’s not true and it’s incredibly stupid”, Eamonn hit back with: “Totally agree with everything you’re saying, but what I don’t accept is mainstream media immediately slapping that down as not true when they don’t know it’s not true.
“No one should attack or damage or do anything like that, but it’s very easy to say it is not true because it suits the state narrative, that’s all I would say as someone with an enquiring mind.”
And late last year, he and his co-star wife Ruth Langsford were ‘axed’ from the ITV show, being replaced in the regular line-up by alternate hosts Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond.
Eamonn’s pal Gloria Hunniford said at the time: “That one was very hard to understand – I don’t fully understand the reasons behind it.
“I’ve talked to Eamonn since, and he’s clearly disappointed. I think they find it very difficult to understand why the change.”
However, Eamonn and Ruth have periodically returned to the show in 2021 to fill in for permanent presenters including Alison and Dermot and Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.
It was reported by The Sun at the time that Eamonn was “gutted” about the axe, with the publication alleging that he and Ruth were urged to keep quiet about “to avoid losing more work”.
A source claimed: “Ruth and Eamonn are obviously upset and feel humiliated about being put out to pasture.
“But they’ve been advised to keep schtum or risk losing more work. It could damage their brand if they lash out.”
On their final regular show, Eamonn and Ruth implored viewers to welcome their pals Alison and Dermot with open arms.
But he couldn’t resist one last swipe at ITV bosses during a discussion about Christmas trees.
Ruth quipped of the discounted trees: “Well I expect they’re struggling to get rid of them.”
As Eamonn hit back: “Which is why they’re getting rid of us on a Friday now after all this sort of chat.”
Ruth laughed off Eamonn’s cutting jibe and told him to “stop it”.
Eamonn has also spoken about his desire to move home to Northern Ireland and make Belfast his ‘permanent’ home.
He insisted that work is one of the main things keeping him in England, admitting in an interview with BelfastLive: “Ruth is now on her own with her mother. She’s got to be here, and we’ve got family commitments and work commitments, we’ve got a stretch of water that keeps us apart.”
He added: “If that work was in Northern Ireland, then I’d be in Northern Ireland.”
