Eamonn Holmes steps in to replace Vernon Kay on This Morning amid Covid battle

Eamonn Holmes has confirmed that he will step in to replace Vernon Kay on ITV’s This Morning next week.

47-year-old Vernon had been due to make his hosting debut on the daytime chat show alongside Rochelle Humes, but was forced to pull out after contracting Covid-19.

Vernon revealed to The Sun that he was “gutted” to be missing out on his first time presenting the show.

However, his seat won’t be empty next week as ITV veteran Eamonn Holmes has announced he will fill in for Vernon on the show alongside singer Rochelle.

Eamonn and his wife and co-star Ruth Langsford previously filled in for Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield this summer.

Eamonn seemed delighted to return to the helm though, and he took to social media to inform them that he’ll be appearing on the show on Monday and Tuesday with Rochelle.

In his tweet, the television legend confirmed that both Vernon and Alison Hammond were off sick and therefore unable to present the show.

Posting on Twitter, Eamonn revealed: “But just when u thought you’d got rid of me …. sickness with @AlisonHammond and @vernonkay means I’m off the bench.”

In his tweet, he continued: “Get well soon to them but I have my Boots on and I’m ready to play . Monday and Tues line up is now myself and @RochelleHumes. Hope you can join us.”

Veron revealed that he was “gutted” to catch Covid as it means he’ll miss his This Morning debut next week

Speaking to The Sun earlier today, Vernon admitted that he is “absolutely gutted” that he’s unable to begin hosting the show next week.

He said: “I’m absolutely gutted that because of a positive Covid test I’m no longer able to present on This Morning next week with Rochelle nor do Radio 2 guest hosting and Steve Wright’s cover, two iconic shows which I’ve been a fan of for decades.

It comes not long after Vernon had been due to take his teen daughter to Reading Festival over the weekend, however it is not certain whether he actually attended the event.

Vernon had told the Daily Mail that Reading Festival had been his first ever festival, so he was excited to chaperone his daughter at Reading this weekend.

He said: “Phoebe is 16 and her first festival will be Reading.

“It was my first festival, too, and everything that goes on at a festival went on and it was quite daunting. So I’m going with her.”

Vernon’s co-star Rochelle, 32, recently spoke about her excitement at hosting This Morning alongside Vernon.

The singer said: “I’m so looking forward to hosting with the wonderful Alison Hammond again. I also can’t wait to welcome Vernon Kay into the This Morning family!”
