EastEnders fans fume the soap is only '20 minutes long' due to unscheduled delay

EastEnders fans were up in arms after the soap kicked off over three minutes late on Monday evening.

Eager viewers were keen to get their night time dose of the programme – especially after they’d waited since Friday for next instalment.

The unscheduled delay certainly wasn’t welcomed by online users who took to Twitter to fume.

One tweet read: “#EastEnders 20-minute episodes in a half hour time slot.”

Another added: “Whenever you’re ready @BBC #EastEnders.”

A third wrote: “Excuse me BBC, Eastenders is 3 minutes late how dare you #eastenders.”

While a fourth fumed: “The BBC is running late again, what’s new? #Eastenders.”

Fans of the programme were unimpressed as the soap kicked off late

In June 2020, the BBC announced that hit soap would be reduced to 20 minutes per show to ensure that there were enough episodes to go around when filming was halted due to Covid-19.

Eastenders did go off air for a brief period before returning with episodes that were 10 minutes shorter – due to coronavirus guidelines.

Viewers have only just got over the setbacks faced during the Covid-19 pandemic

At the time, the Albert Square programme was only being aired twice per week – with producers working tirelessly to bring back the four weekly instalments.

Jon Sen previously said: “Resuming production is incredibly exciting and challenging in equal measure.

“Since we postponed filming we’ve been working non-stop trialling techniques, filming methods and new ways of working so that we can return to screens four times a week – as EastEnders should be.”

Meanwhile a picture surfaced recently which had fans guessing

He added: “Filming will inevitably be a more complex process now, so creating 20-minute episodes will enable us to ensure that when we return, EastEnders will still be the show the audience know and love.”

Meanwhile, new behind the scenes photo’s emerged of the EastEnders set, showing villainous Albert Square resident Gray Atkins being stood up at the altar, in a plot that could possibly reveal his serial killer past.

In the pictures, Gray Atkins who is played by Toby-Alexander Smith is spotted wearing a light grey suit with maroon waistcoat as he waits for his winter wedding to go ahead.

There are so many questions to be answered – with fans suspecting the notorious murderer will catch the eye of lovable Whitney Dean in the coming weeks.
