Gogglebox fans were left disappointed after tuning into the new episode only for there to be no tribute made to Mary Cook, Andy Michael or Pete McGarry, who all passed away this year.
The much-anticipated new series of the hit Channel 4 show came back with a bang tonight as series favourites including Jenny and Lee, Sophie and Pete and the Malones all returned to the show.
However, there was no sign of a tribute to the recently passed cast members in the first episode of the new regular season of the popular award-winning show.
Last Friday’s Celebrity Gogglebox saw tributes paid at the end of the show to Mary Cook and Andy Michael, missing out Pete McGarry who died in June.
One Twitter user commented: “Very poor there from @C4Gogglebox @Channel4.
“No tribute whatsoever to any of the three cast members who have recently passed away. #Gogglebox.”
Another tweeted: “Absolutely no mention of the three recent deaths in the #gogglebox cast on tonight’s episode? That’s really poor form from @Channel4.
“A 5 second dedication at the end wouldn’t have taken much eh??”
The new season began in the shadow of the recent news that the show has sadly lost three members of its cast.
The new series began, however, with footage of siblings Sophie and Pete and Pete’s new baby.
Mary Cook from Bristol died last month at the age of 92, she and pal Marina had kept fans entertained with their close friendship and humour.
Her cause of death has not been disclosed and fellow star Marina will not return to the show after the loss of her dear friend.
Much-loved Dad of the Michael family, Andy Michael, died in August.
The Gogglebox team announced that his Brighton based family – including series regulars wife Caroline, daughter Alex and son Louis, as well as the other family members Katy and Pascal – will not return to the show.
It was announced last month that Andy had died with his family by his side.
A third cast member, Pete McGarry passed away of bowel Cancer in June, he had starred alongside his wife Linda and Linda’s son George Gilbey.
Pete and his family became much loved on the show for their funny remarks and lovely relationship between him and wife Linda and an iconic moment where George accidentally flipped his shoe onto Pete’s chippy tea.
One fan added on Twitter: “Where was the tribute to the two lost cast members at the end of tonight’s episode? Have I missed something elsewhere?
“I am very surprised by @Channel4 if nothing has been done.”
Gogglebox airs Fridays on Channel 4 at 9pm
