ITV Full Monty's Martin Roberts had meltdown before stripping off in memory of late pal

Martin Roberts has revealed he had a meltdown before stripping off for ITV’s Strictly the Real Full Monty.

The 58-year-old property expert, best known for appearing in BBC’s Homes Under The Hammer, is doing the performance alongside former Strictly Come Dancing stars James and Ola Jordan, Blue hunk Duncan James and Olympian Colin Jackson.

Martin says he had some childhood demons he had no choice but to to face head on before baring all in front of a live crowd and millions of viewers watching at home.

Speaking to Daily Star, the former I’m A Celebrity contestant explained: “I have no desire to get my kit off in front of millions of viewers.

“I’m not particularly body confident and I got bullied as a child so getting my kit off in front of anyone is difficult.

“It wouldn’t be my first choice of things to do but when I heard about the reasons for the show you understand the getting the kit off bit is just a way to get people to watch the show.

“The main thing is to get the message over that you’ve got to got to go to the doctors sooner rather than later.”

Martin decided to sign up for the annual TV show in memory of his late friend David Hughes, who died of bowel cancer four years ago.

The TV personality said: “My initial reaction was ‘no chance am I getting my kit off in front of people’ but then I thought about it and Dave was at the forefront of my mind.

“It didn’t take long for me to get the bigger picture.

“It’s all for an important cause and it’s all wrapped up in a fun and dynamic show.”

Despite being eager to do the show in memory of his best friend, Martin admitted that he had a wobble before the big reveal in Blackpool.

He said: “It is a real emotional rollercoaster.

“I did have a bit of a meltdown and I asked if I was the person being made out to be the laughing stock.

“We had to have our photos taken for promo and that was one of the hardest days for me.

“It was the first time we stripped off in front of each other and I had to battle all sorts of childhood demons.

“We got through it, supported each other and I ended up having an all-over naked spray tan.

“Everybody taking part had a story and we really did have a special time together.”

As well as thousands of screaming fans, Martin also had very important guests in the audience.
