Celebrities have come out in droves to support Kate Garraway after her ITV documentary ‘Finding Derek’ aired last night.
Best pal Myleene Klass led the praise, tweeting: “Utterly heartbreaking. @kategarraway you are so full of bravery and courage. Derek has the most incredible woman standing by him x”.
TV presenter Charlotte Hawkins tweeted that she was “praying Derek will find a way back” ahead of the programme.
She wrote: “Thinking of my lovely friend @kategarraway tonight with her documentary #FindingDerek on @ITV at 9pm. It’s so heartbreaking, we’re all just praying Derek will find a way back. Please watch & send love to Kate & her family”.
Fellow Good Morning Britain co-star Ben Shephard who appeared in the documentary also voiced his support for his friend.
He said: “So proud of my friend @kategarraway she continues to surprise, delight, occasionally infuriate but always inspire me. Thinking of Kate, her family and anyone who is battling Covid or has lost someone close to them to the virus. #FindingDerek”
Other colleagues also reached out the Kate to offer their sympathies and admiration, all saying that they had found the show to be “heartbreaking”.
Alison Hammond tweeted: “This is heart breaking but also so inspiring #FindingDerek How amazing is @kategarraway @ITV”.
Lorraine Kelly wrote: “Heartbreaking but such courage, humanity and strength @kategarraway – you are incredible!”
Piers Morgan tweeted: “This is heart-breaking. #FindingDerek @kategarraway” while watching the tragic documentary and later wrote: “Love you @kategarraway,” alongside a picture of Nelson Mandela, that read: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
Meanwhile GMB’s Dr Amir Khan put: “What an incredible woman. What a beautiful family. Heartbreaking and inspiring @kategarraway #FindingDerek.”
Fans also flooded social media with messaged to show their support for the 53-year-old.
One fan wrote: “I am sobbing. I’m so angry at people who deny Covid, won’t wear their mask, won’t stay at home if they are unwell. Cannot stop the tears watching this. My heart breaks for them #FindingDerek @kategarraway is just incredible. Incredible.”

Kate herself tweeted out a thanks for all the support she received and urged fans to get in touch.

The documentary focused on Kate’s life during Derek’s battle against the complications caused by the coronavirus, including major organ failure.
Derek has been unable to leave hospital since being admitted last year, with doctors claiming he was the “sickest person” they’d treated with the virus who had survived.
