The Oscars viewers were left raging after Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman missed out on a top award of the evening.
The late star, who tragically passed away in August last year, had been nominated for Best Actor and was even favourite to win.
However, in a shock move, the late star lost out to Anthony Hopkins who won the prestigious award for his role in The Father.
The British acting legend, 83, played the role of an ageing man suffering with dementia.
While Hopkins’ role has received universal critical acclaim, film fans were unable to hide their shock Boseman missed out on social media.
Taking to Twitter, one Oscar viewer wrote: “That’s the worst TV ending since ‘Game of Thrones’.”
Another added: “They build the entire show around a Chadwick Boseman ending and then Anthony Hopkins won and didn’t show up.”
A third raged: “I’m sick of the #Oscars Chadwick Boseman and history was robbed again.”
“How dare you give Anthony Hopkins best actor over Chadwick Boseman,” a fourth hit out.
Anthony Hopkins’ win was the second time he has won Best Actor at the Academy Awards.
The star won the gong in 1992 for his performance in of The Silence of the Lambs.
Awkwardly, he didn’t collect the award in person or from one of the Zoom in Oscar hubs around the world.
The win does however make him the oldest ever acting Oscar winner.

Chadwick tragically was just 43-years-old when he passed away last year.
He had been battling colon cancer since 2016.
A statement at the time said: “It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman.
“A true fighter. Chadwick persevered through it all and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much.
“It was the honor of his life to bring King T’Challa to life in ‘Black Panther.'”
