Sheridan Smith's car crash horror left passerby fearing 'someone had died'

Following Sheridan Smith’s horrific car crash, a passerby has said they thought “someone must be dead in there” when they first laid eyes on the scene.

The Gavin & Stacey actress, 40, is said to be “lucky to be alive” after her Range Rover collided with a tree near her Essex home during Storm Arwen.

It is thought that the star was in the car with her boyfriend, Alex Lawler, and nobody was seriously injured, reports The Mirror.

The dog walker passerby has now spoken about seeing the vehicle destroyed, wedged in a tree with the hazard lights flashing.

He told The Sun: “The scene was horrific. I automatically assumed, ‘S***, someone must be dead in there’. But then I looked in the car and there wasn’t a person to be seen.

“I panicked and started searching through the bushes shouting, ‘Hello, does anyone need help? Hello!?’

“But there was no reply. The car was completely trashed with the engine hanging out and the whole of the front of the bodywork missing.”

The passerby said they called the police after wondering where the passengers disappeared to.

The tree had severe damage, especially to the top branches which suggested that the car could’ve been in the air as it hit the tree.

It’s thought that the crash happened just before an episode of The Jonathan Ross Show on ITV where Sheridan appeared.

A neighbour has said: “Sheridan is so lucky to be alive. It could have been so much worse. Her car was stuck in the tree, it was a really bad crash.

“It could have been so much worse, she had cuts and bruises, but it could have been fatal, she was incredibly lucky. It was a brand new Range Rover, she hasn’t had it long. It’s almost a miracle she’s not hurt herself more.”

Essex Police said that they spoke to Sheridan and Alex, confirming there were no other drivers involved and that no crimes were committed.

The Daily Star has approached a representative of Sheridan for comment.
