Strictly in chaos as Bruno Tonioli 'at risk' of getting replaced on show

Strictly Come Dancing ‘s Bruno Tonioli is alleged to be “at risk” of being replaced by Anton du Beke.

The next series of the BBC dance competition may be around eight months away but it is already set to be chaos for 2021.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus pandemic its alleged bosses are having a tough time deciding who will fill the judges’ chairs.

Reports have now come in suggesting the iconic Bruno could be replaced by Anton.

It comes after Anton did a grand job stepping in for Motsi Mabuse when she was forced to step back due to Covid-19 guidelines.

Usually, the show is judged by four judges but this year it was only monitored by three due to Covid.

Bruno, 65, was stuck in the USA after opting to do the American version of the show – usually, he jets between countries to do both.

Motsi, Shirley Ballas and Craig Revel Horwood, therefore judged the competition – which sees celebs take to the ballroom – without him.

The Mail on Sunday has now claimed bosses are worried the same could happen this year.

The publication claims that due to the world’s plans to beat the coronavirus pandemic being a bit up in the air, they’re worried to waste taxpayers’ money paying for Bruno if he can’t be there.

Recently the BBC, which is funded by taxpayers, has faced a number of controversies – from axing free license fees for OAPs, to accusations of failing impartiality.

The publication reports: “BBC executives are uneasy about signing him in case they end up in the same situation they did this year – and spending licence fee payers money for just a few moments of television.”

A source reportedly close to the show also told The Mail on Sunday: “This time last year Bruno had been signed up but things are so much less certain now.

“It is very unlikely the BBC will allow themselves to be in the same position they were this year and end up spending so much money for such little value.

“Bruno chose Dancing With The Stars over Strictly, that’s no secret. If he does the same again this year, things will be tricky. There is the perfect replacement waiting in the wings – Anton.”

Daily Star Online has contacted a representative of Strictly for comment.
