BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood forced to apologise on-air after awkward forecast slip-up

BBC Breakfast star Carol Kirkwood was recently forced to apologise after she partially lost her voice.

Carol joined her co-stars Jon Kay and Sally Nugent on the early morning news show and hosted her usual weather bulletin.

As she relayed the information, her voice began to crack slightly.

She told viewers: “Through this evening and overnight, the showers move north, followed in hot pursuit by another band of showers […] and the wind will be a feature of the weather across the English channel tonight and all areas including the Channel Islands…”

Kirkwood trailed off and coughed mid-sentence and was forced to apologise to audiences before she continued on.

The presenter explained: “I think I did too much singing at the weekend, sorry about my voice!”

Back in the studio, Nugent had a burning question for her colleague.

She asked: “Carol, I have got one very important question to ask you before we let you go. What on earth were you singing?”

Carol admitted that she had been belting out Summer of ‘69 by Bryan Adams and Sally was impressed with her choice.

She questioned whether Adams had been with her over the weekend, but Carol cheekily quipped: “Only in my dreams, Sal.”

Jon then commented that it “of course” had to be Bryan Adams, as he couldn’t think of “who else” it could be.

Carol is a beloved member of the BBC Breakfast team and is partial to a few blunders here and there – but always brushes them off with a smile.

She recently called stand-in presenter Rachel Burden by the wrong name as she passed back to the BBC studio one morning.

Charlie Stayt was hosting the show along with her, but Carol’s fatal error came when she called her Ruth instead.

She got flustered and apologised for her mistake but all seemed forgiven as they laughed.

Charlie stated that “it happens” before Rachel joked that “any old name will do”.

Charlie then teased Carol and told her to “do it one more time correctly” so that they could all “pretend it didn’t happen”.

Carol called them by their correct names and branded the duo “amazing,” before Stayt assured her that “no-one even noticed”.
