Coronation Street star Harriet Bibby has revealed that she will be taking on a new role away from the ITV soap this summer.
Harriet, who has played teenager Summer Spellman since 2020, will be taking a brief break from Weatherfield to take on a new theatre role at Liverpool’s Royal Court Studio.
The actress announced the news in an Instagram story, which revealed that she will be appearing in a theatre production called Blackbird, for four shows at the theatre in July 2022.
Sharing a post from Roots Theatre, Harriet was quoted in the story as saying: “I am so thrilled to be working on Blackbird, especially after having to postpone the show!
“We had our first rehearsal and I could already tell that is was going to be a fantastic play. It’s beautifully written and there’s a lot to unpack, which is so exciting.”
Harriet also added her own caption onto the re-shared story, adding: “So excited for this.”
However, soap fans do not need to worry, as Harriet will be returning to her cobbles role after making her theatre appearance next month.
Harriet took on the role of Summer Spellman two years ago, after original Summer star Matilda Freeman decided to leave Coronation Street.
Since then, she has been at the centre of some of the soap’s major storylines – including discovering that her former guardian Todd Grimshaw had returned to Weatherfield after being on the run, her crush on teacher Daniel Osbourne and recently being diagnosed with type one diabetes.
In recent episodes, Summer also revealed to Todd and Billy Mayhew that she no longer wants to attend Oxford University.
As well as being nominated in the longlist for her role as Summer Spellman at the National Television Awards, Harriet has also formed sweet co-star bonds with her Coronation Street cast members too.
She described that their time on screen together has led to a close relationship off set too, telling OK! Magazine: “My closest friends are Dan [Brocklebank, who plays Billy Mayhew] and Gareth [Pierce, who plays Todd Grimshaw], who I work a lot with.”
