Coronation Street fans are certain that teacher Daniel Osbourne could be ‘gaslighting’ his girlfriend Daisy Midgeley in an incredibly sinister plot twist.
Daniel and Daisy rekindled their romance after a brief split, and looked set to be soulmates – until the arrival of former sex worker Nicky Wheatley back on the cobbles.
Daniel used to pay Nicky for her time, asking her to dress up in his wife Sinead’s clothes after her tragic death, but the pair also grew closer romantically.
Now training as a teaching assistant, Nicky and Daniel have grown closer while planning for a school trip – and he has maintained to Daisy that they are simply friends, while keeping quiet about her past.
But fans reckon they’re now in for a sinister abuse twist, as Daniel keeps lying to his partner.
The term gaslighting originally comes from the 1938 play Gas Light, in which a husband psychologically manipulates his wife with the goal of driving her into a mental breakdown and steal money from her.
Taking to Reddit to air their theories, one fan penned: “I personally think Daniel is gaslighting Daisy.
“He has had a relationship with Nicky in the past. I think it is disrespectful (to Daisy) of Daniel to be spending so much time with Nicky, cancelling plans with Daisy and just generally putting more effort into his friendship with Nicky than his own girlfriend.
“Daisy feels the need to be the ‘cool girl’ and not complain but this is actually just gonna end up biting her on the a** when they develop feelings for one another.”
Someone else quickly agreed: “I say this every time there’s a scene with the three of them on!
“HOW can you not see that spending more time with your ex girlfriend than your current girlfriend may upset her?! Especially when Daisy knows nothing about her, she’s literally appeared out of nowhere and Daniel keeps ditching Daisy for her.”
As a third viewer echoed: “100% he needs to be honest with her. Once she finds out the truth from one of them she’s going to be really upset and rightfully angry. Honesty and communication is the only way to a healthy relationship. Jenny and everyone thinks Daisy is the issue here but it’s Daniel not being honest.”

“Don’t forget that he also has lied by omission to Daisy by not fully explaining the origin of his and Nickys relationship,” someone else pointed out.
And another eagle-eyed fan suggested Nicky could also be at fault, and should respect the “sisterhood” that exists in theory between her and Daisy.
They also suggested the planning of the Edinburgh school trip seems to be taking a curiously long time to allow the pair to grow closer, adding: “I didn’t like Daisy for a long time but I absolutely agree that Daniel is gaslighting Daisy. Daisy has experienced grief, given her little brother died.
“He should explain to her the whole Sinead grief situation which led to Nicky’s presence in his life. She might not like the answer but at least she’ll know he is being honest.”
