Great British Bake Off celebs leave fans outraged as they're baffled by common dessert

Great British Bake Off fans were left in shock after the celebrity contestants admitted they didn’t know what a jam roly-poly was.

The Great British Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer episode saw singer Ellie Goulding, presenter Sophie Morgan and actors Mawaan Rizwan and Tracy-Ann Oberman attempt to win over judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

The celebs were challenged to make a marble cake, a jam roly poly and a biscuit portrait of their idol.

The marble cake challenge went by with smooth sailing and the judges seemed impressed with their attempts.

Mawaan made a mango marble cake and attempted to rap to get in Paul’s good books, while Ellie went over the top with green food colouring for her pistachio creation.

After the first round, Paul and Prue asked that the technical challenge would be a particularly tricky one as they required the contestants to make a jam roly poly, along with a batch of fresh home made custard.

Presenter Noel Fielding asked them for an “almond and cherry jam roly poly with custard,” while Matt Lucas told them that it should be made with “a suet pastry and filled with homemade cherry jam”.

The camera cut to Sophie, who wore a colourful patterned shirt and styled her hair in a ponytail, who admitted that she “doesn’t know what a jam roly poly is” but said that she could “use her imagination”.

Mawaan, who wore a fluorescent yellow ensemble, also had no idea and said he “guessed it would be a jam thing, rolled over”.

Fans took to Twitter to voice their outrage at the revelation.

One tweeter: “Are these serious, they don’t know what a jam roly poly is?”

Another wrote: “She doesn’t know what jam roly-poly is? F*** right off.”

One viewer spat: “They don’t know what a jam roly-poly is?!”

Sophie Morgan asked Mawaan whether he’d had jam roly-poly whilst at school and he made the joke that his school “barely had a canteen”.

The confusion clearly doesn’t spread to all celebs, as football favourite Harry Redknapp confessed to jam roly-poly being his top dessert choice while stuck in the I’m A Celeb jungle.

Ellie eventually won the round and received great praise from Prue and Paul.
