Dancing on Ice's Kye Whyte will not perform this weekend due to injury after nasty fall

Kye Whyte will not perform on Dancing on Ice this weekend.

The Olympic athlete sustained a sprain to his knee during rehearsals and have ITV bosses have now confirmed he will not be skating this weekend.

Medical professionals advised Kye it was safer to avoid skating this weekend after the nasty injury.

An ITV spokesperson said: “During rehearsals for this Sunday’s show, Kye fell on the ice and sustained an injury and will therefore not perform in this weekend’s show.”

Speaking about having to avoid skating this weekend, Kye said: “It’s an unfortunate accident. I’ve trained and worked hard with Tippy to perform this weekend.

“For me, as an athlete, I’m used to stuff like this happening where you get injured and can’t compete. I’m more sad for Tippy, she’s worked hard so not being able to skate is obviously upsetting. We both really wanted to do this number, it’s a cool performance and we put a lot of effort into it.

“I was so happy and excited for everyone when they skated last weekend. I was watching and couldn’t wait to skate this Sunday. I’ll be there cheering everyone on!”

Kye shot to fame at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

The champion BMX racer bagged himself a silver medal during the games.

Kye, 22, began racing at the young age of three, and riding very much runs in the family, as his dad Nigel is the co-founder of the Peckham BMX club.

It was at this bike club that Kye was given the nickname “The Prince of Peckham” and from there he began his ascent to Olympic glory.

Kye also bagged himself a silver medal at the European Championship in 2018. He then recorded his first Supercross victory in Manchester the following year.
