Baywatch star David Hasselhoff turns 70 today, on Sunday, July 17. The American icon of the 80s and 90s still remains charming.
The actor who told the German Press Agency he still feels physically fit has plans for the future, including the release of single “Damn It I Love You,” a birthday anniversary box set as well as an appearance in comedy series ‘Ze Network.’
As he rings in his milestone birthday with old companions from Knight Rider and Baywatch, here’s a look at his three marriages and battle with booze over the years.
Who is David Hasselhoff married to?
David Hasselhoff met his future third wife Hayley Roberts, 42, in 2011 at a hotel in Cardiff, while the actor was still a judge on Britain’s Got Talent.
Roberts reportedly asked David for an autograph and he apparently agreed on the condition that she’d give him her number.
The couple who have a nearly thirty-year age between them, started dating soon after, announcing their engagement in 2016.
They married two years later in an intimate Italian wedding, attended by close family and friends including David’s two daughters. David and Hayley have enjoyed a happy marriage since then.
Who was David Hasselhoff previously married to?
Before his marriage to Hayley Roberts, David Hasselhoff was married twice.
Catherine Hickland
He married film actress Catherine Hickland in 1984, however their union was short-lived lasting only five years before they divorced.
Hickland is best known for playing the role of Lindsay Rappaport for twelve years in the ABC series One Life To Live.
Besides acting she is also a hypnotist, ranked one of the most successful female hypnotherapists in the United States.
She is also a public speaker, author and owner of Cat Cosmetics, a successful line of colour cosmetics.
After her divorce from Hasselhoff, Hickland married Michael E. Knight in 1992. They split up in 2002 and she is currently married to director Todd Fisher.
Pamela Bach
David Hasselhoff’s second marriage was to actress Pamela Bach. Though his most long-lasting relationship, their divorce was also his messiest.
The pair married in 1989 and were together for 17 years, welcoming two daughters Taylor Hasselhoff and Hayley Hasselhoff together.
In 2006, Bach filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences, followed by a tense child custody battle.
After several months, David was granted full custody of both their daughters, with Bach getting visitation rights.
Prior to the ruling, the Baywatch actor was briefly stripped of his access to his children – 17 and 14 at the time- after a video of him in a drunken state was shown to the judge.
However, the judge ruled on the basis of further evidence and David was named sole legal and physical custodian of his daughters.
What has David Hasselhoff said about his alcohol addiction?
David Hasselhoff revealed that he hit “rock bottom” before finally dealing with his alcohol addiction.
In an interview with TV Guide magazine, the then 50-year-old actor, said : “I was spinning out of control. Some people can have a few drinks and others cannot.”
Though he checked himself into the Betty Ford Centre in Rancho Mirage, California, he left just a day later.
He was then found unconscious in a hotel after having too much to drink and was rushed to the hospital.
He admitted that he wasn’t ready to seek treatment when he checked into Betty Ford, but that he had a moment of clarity after regaining consciousness in the emergency room.
He said: “I woke up going, ‘This is rock bottom. You’re letting yourself down, you’re letting your family down, you’ve got to seek help.”
He checked back into the clinic and managed to conquer his alcohol addiction.
Now the actor feels fit and healthy continuing to train as much as his age allows him to, while also taking the breaks he needs.
Recently he shared his hopes for the future saying: “We should live life until it’s over. Who knows when it’s over. Maybe if you cross the street. So I enjoy it as much as I can.”
